Low Fat Vegan Ice Cream

by Lindsay on January 9, 2009

It does exist! My mother bought me an icecream machine as a Holiday gift (go Mom!) and I’ve been antsy to try it out. (I have Cuisinart’s Ice Cream Maker. You can find it online for $30)

tofu icecream

I found this recipe on the ppk and gave it a try using 1 cup fat-free soy milk and maple syrup. It was delicious! The only downfall was that it started melting quickly so I’m going to experiment with it a bit to see if that can be avoided. I’ll post nutritional info with my adapted recipe.

Oh yum! I really never gets too cold for ice cream. I ought to borrow my mom’s ice cream maker again soon. Homemade ice cream is so delicious!

I’ve never made my own ice cream before. This looks so good and so easy too! YUM!

Great gift from mom!

I got an ice cream maker for my birthday and have been itching to use it! Good to know fat free soy milk is a possibility. :)

OH. MY. GOODNESS. GRACIOUS.

I have the ice cream attachment for my kitchenaid and love using it. I really ought to make more homemade ice cream soon. I tried the Veganomicon recipe during VeganMofo but it was certainly NOT low fat.

This looks great. I’m trying to cut out sugars after all the sugar I ate over the holidays. I wonder if I couldn’t try some with Stevia….someday when I get an ice cream maker…

Yum, love the chocolate chip topping! I make ice-cream in my Vita-Mix and I have the same problem with it melting…plus, it never freezes well. Because I have to eat it all at once, I have to be very careful and try to make just one serving. Heaven forbid I throw any out. :)

wow I would not leave home if I had an ice cream maker!, the ice creams sounds so decadent, its hard to believe is low fat :D

Lindsay January 9, 2009 at 11:22 PM

Rika,
Mi-Del makes a good whole wheat gram cracker (though it has honey), Envirokidz makes gluten-free gram crackers that I believe are vegan and Isa has a great recipe to make vegan whole wheat gram crackers at home:

If you eat honey, you should be able to find able to find a bunch of whole wheat gram cracker options on Amazon (or try Google) if you don’t it may be a bit harder but I know vegan, whole wheat crackers without honey do exist. I prefer the gluten-free ones.

Oh my! This looks amazing! I make raw ice cream with my blender sometimes, I wish we had an ice cream maker though! Droool!

Mad About Udon January 10, 2009 at 7:55 AM

*gasp*
WANT!!

River (Wing-it vegan) January 10, 2009 at 7:31 PM

I have the same ice cream maker! We make ice cream several times a week. Mr. Wing-it’s favorite is a root beer float, with basic vanilla ice cream (soy milk, maple syrup or sugar, and vanilla). I love the frozen strawberry/soy milk/agave ice cream the most!

this looks awesome!! really, nutritional info isn’t necessary!! haha i hate seeing how much fat and calories are in my food. that’s one of the reasons i hate buying packaged/processed foods. i’d rather NOT know.

Chelle January 12, 2009 at 3:28 PM

It’s been so cold here that ice cream has been the farthest thing from my mind, but your pic just put it in the forefront. My fave: chocolate banana almond, yum!

Melisser January 13, 2009 at 10:05 PM

Ooh, yum! I always find my ice cream melts right out of the maker, so I tend to throw it in the freezer for a bit, if I can wait!
