Description

BBQ sauce with no refined sugar added. This recipe makes approximately 14-oz total (about 1 ¾ cups). It can be frozen. Serving size is approximately 2 tbsp.

Ingredients

  • ½ whole onion, diced

  • 2 whole garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste

  • 8 ounces tomato sauce

  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard

  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard

  • 1 tsp worcestershire sauce (optional)

  • 2 tbsp molasses (not blackstrap)

Instructions

  1. Line a skillet with a thin layer of water.

  2. Saute onion and garlic until translucent, about 3 minutes.

  3. Add tomato paste and stir to coat.

  4. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, until excess liquid has absorbed.

  5. Add remaining ingredients and cook over low 5-10 minutes.

  6. Transfer to a blender and puree until smooth.

  7. Taste, adding more molasses or vinegar (for a tangier sauce) as desired.

  8. For a sweeter BBQ, add 1-2 tbsp brown sugar. For a bit of a kick, add a few drops of your favorite hot sauce or cayenne pepper.
