Why Herbie (The little elephant) & More Necklaces!

Posted by:Lindsay S. Nixon Category: Misc Popular

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about my elephant -- what’s the story behind it?

I wish I had some amazing, profound story to share -- but it’s pretty boring: I like elephants.

Yep. That’s pretty much it.

When Scott & I were redesigning happyherbivore.com for the second time, we both agreed I needed some kind of logo. I wanted to use a herbivore for obvious reasons and my first suggestion was a turtle -- that is, until I realized they actually weren’t herbivores. oops.

That’s when I circled back to elephants. I’d always loved elephants and after a quick check on wikipedia -- herbivores! -- it was settled.

In the time that has elapsed since, I’ve found more meaning in my elephant. Yes they are big and beautiful, but they are gentle giants. They are smart and they are strong. Those are the messages I want to convey with my brand and this lifestyle.

Last year, we turned my logo (“Herbie”) into a necklace and sold them for charity. In total, we raised $5,000 for the elephant sanctuary in Tennessee. It was a wonderful project that I hold very close to my heart.

Since that project, we’ve been able to get a few more Herbie necklaces from our designer, which we’re now selling. This will absolutely be the last run of these necklaces.

Herbie is a 100% sterling silver charm necklace - and only $35.00 (plus free shipping in the US)! Supplies are limited and this is the last run, so get yours today!

**The necklaces sold out in 2012, and we are not making more. Thanks to everyone who supported the project. We raised over $5,000 for the elephants!**
