No Sugar Barbecue Sauce (Sugar-Free)

- ½ whole onion, diced
- 2 whole garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 8 ounces tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp worcestershire sauce (optional)
- 2 tbsp molasses (not blackstrap)
Instructions
- Line a skillet with a thin layer of water.
- Saute onion and garlic until translucent, about 3 minutes.
- Add tomato paste and stir to coat.
- Cook for another 1-2 minutes, until excess liquid has absorbed.
- Add remaining ingredients and cook over low 5-10 minutes.
- Transfer to a blender and puree until smooth.
- Taste, adding more molasses or vinegar (for a tangier sauce) as desired.
- For a sweeter BBQ, add 1-2 tbsp brown sugar. For a bit of a kick, add a few drops of your favorite hot sauce or cayenne pepper.
