Hi Herbies. It's Courtney again. An old friend of mine's funeral was yesterday, was an overdose from diet pills. An obsession with looking a certain way that stemmed from childhood, that he couldn't shake. Yes, I said he.
Did you ever make fun of the chubby kid at school, or did your friends and you did nothing to stop them? I'm not talking about bullying, but just "kids being kids" type of jokes. Some parents think that kids just need to 'toughen up' and get over it, but does that really work?
When that chubby kid from elementary school grows up and is skinny and obsessed with their image, could it be from all that teasing? Could it lead to a person talking diet pills into their 30s so they won't get fat? Yes, and it can have deadly consequences.
I'm not saying that everyone who turns to diet pills to lose that last little bit of weight had problems growing up, but some may have.
Dieting and trying to look a certain way is not just a woman's problem, it can and does affect men too. Men can be just as obsessed with their looks, and can turn to the same 'tricks' to become or stay something they want to be.
There is no safe way to lose weight quickly. A friend of mine once said, that she didn't put the weight on overnight so how could it come off overnight? It can't, at least not safely.
Sure diet pills might work, but at what cost? Death is not the only symptom. There are many others, from affecting your mood, sleep, digestion, the list could go on and on.
Taking diet pills or starving yourself is not going to give you the long term results you are looking for. It istemporary, and unsafe. The FDA doesn't have many regulatory powers over these supplements, and they don't control what statements/advertising the companies can do.
If you are taking a prescription drug, you know that it has been through clinical trials and reviewed by the FDA. Over the counter or online supplements arenot requiredto do the same, that's why it usually says somewhere on the packaging "these statements have not been evaluated by the FDA."
Is it really worth your life to lose that 25 lbs this month? If you want/need to lose weight, cut back on fat in your diet, keep eating your fruits and vegetables, talk to your doctor, know that it won't happen overnight.
