Happy Herbivore and my birthday often seem to conspire to do something marvelous together.
On my 28th birthday, my first cookbook, The Happy Herbivore Cookbook , went off to the printer.
On my 31st birthday, I found out I'd crossed a landmark: I'd sold 100,000 cookbooks .
(As of this last June, the count was up to 150,000!! ).
I wonder what today will hold :)
Then again, I think the Happy Herbivore + Birthday conspiracy skips every few years (but I have a sneaking suspicion I know what's in store for a future birthday!)
Anyway, I had just turned 26 a few weeks before I started Happy Herbivore and I've been trying to think what I would tell my younger self.
This quote was given to me in my early teens, and it's always been something I held onto during hard times, and dare I say, has proved true:
Everything ends up okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end yet.
I felt so much pressure to have everything figured out when I was in my early 20's. I think most of that was self-imposed, but I felt anxious... it was suffocating... that I didn't really know what I wanted to do.
(As I've been teaching in my new Exit Strategy School , I should have just realized another "job" was not the answer. I was never going to figure out what I wanted to do for a "job." I was never going to be happy at a "job." I needed to be in business for myself. I'm so happy as an entrepreneur, free on the 9-5, and setting my own schedule!)
Anyway, when I started feeling gloomy about my predicaments back then, I would remember this Baz Luhrmann 'song' that came out the year before I graduated high school. It always made me feel a little bit better (still does!)
It also gave me hope that I, too, would be most interesting:

I also still love this Apple commercial:

(As you might remember from my memoir bit in Happy Herbivore Abroad , or yesterday's blog post confessional , many of Steve Jobs' words were (and still are) a comfort for me as I built and continue to build Happy Herbivore.)
Anyway, for my 32nd birthday, here are 32 things you might not know about me... in a slideshow!
