A few weeks ago, I shared an experience on Facebook where I told a cashier to have a nice day and the cashier thanked me saying she really needed to hear that.
It made me realize what an impact small gestures can have. How a smile or a thank you can turn someone's day around.
When I shared my experience, dozens of comments poured in from Herbies who had similar experiences. Several had remarked they once went to pay for a drink at Starbucks, only to find out the person ahead of them had already paid for it.
Recently, I was having a terrible day and a woman stopped me to compliment the dress I was wearing. It totally changed everything. The fog lifted . My spirit brightened and the bad day was a little less terrible---heck, I started feeling optimistic I could turn the day around . And I did.
So this Minimalist Monday, smile at strangers. Give someone a compliment. Pay for the person's coffee behind you in the drive-thru, tell a customer service agent or cashier to have a nice day, tell your employee/secretary/etc they're doing good job, thank the bus driver, and so on.
You have the ability to change someone's day and who knows? Maybe someone will change yours.
Its the little things in life that matter.
