My obsession with cinnamon buns runs deep. Although I've created a killer fat-free whole-wheat vegan cinnamon bun recipe to scratch the itch when it needs scratching; it's not exactly instant... or practical on a busy weekday morning. Smoothies, however, are my favorite answer to breakfast and today I combined the two for an amazing cinnamon experience!

How to make salad dressing without fat or oil

The other day I asked HH's FB fans, "How do YOU make a salad go from ordinary to extraordinary?" and through this discussion several people inquired about how you make salad dressing without oil or fat.

Here are my tips & tricks plus a no-fail quick recipe:

1. squeeze fresh lemon or lime juice over your salad

2. add fresh fruit (or dried fruit) for added flavor instead of a dressing

3. experiment with fat-free balsalmic vinaigrettes

4. substitute tofu (or avocado) for oil in old recipes

5. combine equal parts agave and dijon mustard (pictured)

6. use BBQ sauce as a dressing

7. toss your salad with flavor salsas like pineapple-mango

8. add components to your salad: grains, baked beans, sweet potatoes

9. use fresh juices like carrot juice as a dressing

10. Serve with a dollop of HH's hummus, guac or HH's mock tuna.

Fat-Free Vegan Key Lime Pie Parfaits

Admittedly, I hate yogurt commercials. I tend to scream things like "healthy? they have more sugar than a can of coke!" and "oh, yeah something intended to turn a calf into a 400lb cow is going to make you skinny!" 

But then something hit me the other night... I thought to myself, "you know, I should do that to tofu!" Channeling my eggnog banana parfaits that were in vegetarian times, I decided to make a sinless key lime pie parfait. with tofu! 

This is one delicious treat that's quick to make. Depending on your lime, and how sweet or tart you like your key lime pie, you'll have to make some adjustments as you go with this recipe -- but it's a wonderful protein-packed treat!

A refreshing and fun breakfast or snack or an easy, no fuss dessert!

Instructions

Crush graham crackers and set aside. Combine tofu with lime juice, lime zest, vanilla extract and agave in a small food processor or blender and whiz until smooth. Taste, adding more lime or sweetener as desired. Layer in a serving glass or dish, crackers... tofu mixture... crackers... tofu mixture. Garnish with lime wedges!

Chef's Notes: grape nuts and other cereals may be used in place of the whole wheat graham crackers.
